Piosenka dla Was - Upływa Szybko Życie

The first time I heard this song was one quiet evening in 1989 in Nürnberg's old town, sung by a melancholic (and drunk) Pole somewhere in the distance, across a deserted square.

Here below are the words they sing, which do not include all the stanzas ('bis' means to repeat). The English is just a rough, literal translation.

Upływa szybko życie, / Life flows away quickly

Jak potok płynie czas, /  Time flows like a stream

Za rok, za dzień, za chwilę, / In a year, in a day, in a while

Razem nie będzie nas. /bis / We won't be together.

O, jeszcze młodość nasza, / O, there is still our youth

jeszcze szczęśliwi my, / We are still happy

o, niech przynajmniej teraz / o, may there at least for now

nie płyną gorzkie łzy. / flow no bitter tears.

Razem nie będzie nas. / We won't be together anymore.
